Looking for a Glazier in London?
Hunters Glass are glaziers based in Rayleigh, Essex, working across London. Most of the London calls we take are one of three things: glass that has been broken and needs making safe now, a pane or sealed unit that needs replacing, or a cat flap to go into a glass door.
For emergency glazing, we answer the phone 24 hours a day. A smashed front door, a ground-floor window after a break-in or a cracked shopfront can be boarded up and secured first, then measured so the right replacement glass can be made to size.
For emergency glass repair, we replace broken glass in windows, doors and shopfronts, using toughened or laminated safety glass where the rules call for it, such as in doors and low-level panes.
For cat flap fitting, we are SureFlap approved installers. You can't cut a hole in an existing double-glazed unit, so we have a new toughened unit made with the hole already in it, then fit it and the flap.

Why This Area
Older homes, original windows
A lot of London's housing is older than the glass in it. Victorian and Edwardian terraces often still have timber sash windows with single glazing, or sashes that were later fitted with slim double-glazed units. When one of these breaks, the job is usually to reglaze the sash rather than replace the window, so the frame and the look of the house are kept.
Many streets of period houses sit in conservation areas, and some buildings are listed. Replacing broken glass like for like is normally straightforward, but changing the style of a front window can need your council's permission. It's worth checking before you plan anything bigger than a repair, and we can talk you through what a like-for-like repair involves.
Property Types
Flats, mansion blocks and leasehold rules
Much of London lives in flats, from mansion blocks and converted houses to newer blocks with balconies. Most are leasehold, and that matters for glazing work. Swapping a balcony or patio door panel for one with a cat flap hole can count as an alteration to the outside of the building, so many freeholders and managing agents ask for written consent first. If you rent, you'll need your landlord's agreement too. One advantage of a new glass unit is that the original can be kept and refitted later if you move.
Access is the other thing to plan for. Flats above shops, buildings with a concierge and blocks with restricted parking all affect how and when a large pane can be brought in. Tell us about access when you get in touch and we can plan the visit around it.
Common Challenges
When glass breaks in London
After a break-in, the first job is making the property secure, then getting the glass replaced. If you're claiming on your home insurance, take photos of the damage before anything is cleared and let your insurer know. We're approved by major insurance companies, so we're used to the paperwork that goes with a claim.
On a busy high street, a smashed shopfront needs boarding quickly so the business can lock up at night, then replacing with the right safety glass once it has been measured and made.
For a cat flap, a few details speed things up: whether your door is uPVC, aluminium or timber, any small stamp in the corner of the glass, and a photo of the door from inside and outside. With those, we can tell you what's possible before anyone visits.
